| Admission to the College of Graduate Studies |
Write or consult appropriate departmental administrator and the Graduate Admissions Office. |
Deadlines
Requirements |

| Appointment of Major Professor and Committee |
Prepared by student. After obtaining signatures, submit the form to the College of Graduate Studies for approval. Committee may be appointed at a later date. If a change is necessary, a "Graduate Program/Committee Changes form. |
Should be filed before or during the second semester after admission and before or at the same time as submission of study plan. |

| Qualifying Examination |
If required by department; major professor and student set time and place. |
As early as possible during first semester in program; prerequisite to preparation of study plan. |

| Study Plan |
Prepared by student, major professor, and committee, if committee has been appointed. After obtaining signatures, submit the form to the College of Graduate Studies for approval. If a change is necessary, file a "Study Plan" form. |
Should be filed before or during the second semester after admission. |
|
| Language Examination |
If required by department; arrangements for local examination or ETS foreign language examination may be made through the department. |
Consult department for completion deadline. |
|
| Report of Preliminary Examination and Advancement to Candidacy |
*Required for doctoral students only. Time and place set by major professor and committee. Form is filed with the College of Graduate Studies. |
At discretion of the department. Should not be held until majority of courses on study plan are completed. |

| Application for Advanced Degree |
Student and major professor (and committee) certify degree requirements completed or will be completed within the semester. File form with the College of Graduate Studies. |
Date appears in the Catalog/Academic Calendar. |

| Request to Proceed with Final Defense of Thesis |
Form is for theses and dissertation students only and is also available in the "Graduate Handbook for Theses and Dissertations." Students file form in the College of Graduate Studies before defense of thesis. |
As soon as date, time and location of defense have been determined. (Doctoral students must submit at least ten business days before defense.) |

| Final Defense Report |
Form is for theses and dissertation students only. Issued by the College of Graduate Studies upon receipt of the "Request to Proceed with Final Defense..." form. |
To be taken to final defense for completion and returned by the major professor to the College of Graduate Studies following defense. Due date for results appears in the academic calendar in the Catalog. (It is always the last day of the semester.) |

| Non-Thesis Requirement |
For all non-thesis students. Major professor files form with the College of Graduate Studies. |
After completion of most of the degree requirements. >Due date for form appears on the academic calendar for the intended semester of graduation. |
